The Office of the Chief Security Officer / Resource Management & Planning department is looking for a summer intern to join their team! Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring PAPD data integrity by reading, understanding, auditing, potentially correcting, and correctly classifying criminal and non-criminal incident reports in accordance with the incident-based Uniform Crime Reporting standards that are submitted federally
  • Updating cases with patrol and detective supplemental reports to reflect case status changes, crime type updates, and/or other qualitative reporting items
  • Learning all aspects of the National Incident-Based Reporting System and (NIBRS) completing monthly crime submissions to the FBI through the New Jersey State Police
  • Serving as a subject matter expert in NIBRS reporting by offering technical assistance to staff on fielding errors and understanding reporting requirements for submission
  • Assisting the security analyst with their analytical suite by ensuring data accuracy through auditing and analyzing system data
  • Identifying possible trends for additional analysis and creating new, actionable insights for PAPD and OCSO leadership through visualizations
  • Performing high-level research on relevant topics, drafting memos or briefs with preliminary recommendations, developing and redeveloping policy, and creating presentations on areas related to security or police performance
  • Working with all members of the team to effectively memorialize all tasks in written form

About the Office of the Chief Security Officer / Resource Management & Planning Department:

The mission of Resource Management & Planning (RMP) is to support the delivery of quality services that fulfills the Chief Security Officer’s mission and Agency objectives by establishing, implementing, and monitoring resource management policies and programs for all Departments reporting to the CSO. RMP empowers CSO Departments to excel by creating greater independence and objectivity in assessing projects, programs, and performance, while allowing for more consistent management of crucial information across security business areas.


  • Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program for the upcoming Fall 2022 school semester.
  • We are seeking interns who are talented, driven and who have a genuine interest in contributing to the success of the New York/New Jersey region.
  • We welcome applications from a diverse range of University disciplines and concentrations.
  • Successful candidates will be self-starters with excellent communication, research and applicable technical skills.


  • Experience with Tableau, Crystal Reports, PowerBI, or other data visualization software
  • In-progress graduate degree preferred
  • Majors in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Public Policy, Public Administration, Government, or Legal Studies
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Innovative ideas with the ability to actualize ideas into actionable insights
  • Passion for public service

This will be a hybrid internship opportunity, meaning that it will be virtual and in-person throughout the summer.

*This internship is expected to be a full-time internship lasting 12 weeks.

Recruitment Timeline:
