The Port Authority offers paid summer internships to students that provide the opportunity to work with knowledgeable and experienced professionals on assignments critical to operating, maintaining, and expanding the transportation infrastructure for one of the greatest economies in the world.

The Operations Services Department (OSD) is looking for a summer intern to join their team in the Director’s Office unit! The intern will split their time between two robust and ongoing projects: 1) working with OSD and the Technology Department to establish an OSD Azure Data Warehouse with Synapse connections to currently siloed data and then connecting said data to Power BI dashboard(s); and 2) using office 365 tools (Power Automate, Microsoft Forms, SharePoint) and/or DocuSign to streamline and digitize currently manual processes for the myriad of OSD divisional customer services. The work will assist in OSD’s efforts to continuously improve and become data-driven in its management and decision making.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Understanding and working with multiple data source types: Oracle, Azure SQL, R:Base, SharePoint, Microsoft Common Data Service, SAP etc.
  • Gaining familiarity with the process of establishing a data warehouse using Azure Synapse, Microsoft Analysis Service, and the Azure Active Directory.
  • Using Power BI to develop key performance indicators for decidedly disparate data types: vehicular fleet, cafeteria sales, construction project management, maintenance and work orders, employee safety training, job site and food safety inspections, and budget data among them.
  • Understanding end-user and stakeholder requirements for web-based versions for service requests and customer processes.
  • Understanding the benefits and limitations of current web-based options: DocuSign, MS Forms, SharePoint, and MS PowerApps.
  • Garnering and incorporating client feedback once prototyped dashboards and process improvements are created.

About OSD: As the first line of safety management, training, maintenance, and operational support across all The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s lines of business, the Operation Services Department (OSD) is key in the day-to-day experience of the public we serve.
