Responsibilities

The Port Authority offers paid summer internships to students that provide the opportunity to work with knowledgeable and experienced professionals on assignments critical to operating, maintaining, and expanding the transportation infrastructure for one of the greatest economies in the world.

Assignments include hands-on projects to cultivate technical, writing, communication and team-building skills. The diversity of our businesses creates a variety of opportunities for students to gain exposure to the work of a first-class public agency

The Major Capital Projects department is looking for a summer intern to join their team in the Commercial Development Unit! Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in advancing the commercial development at the World Trade Center Campus.
  • Coordinating with stakeholders and tenants in design and construction of capital improvements for major cultural buildings such as the Perelman Performing Arts Center, the St. Nicholas National Shrine and the 9/11 Memorial. 
  • We are also responsible for coordination of stakeholder and tenant design and construction of major office buildings and interior spaces; (1WTC, 3WTC, 4WTC).  New developments include 2WTC, 5WTC and continued master plan coordination. 
  • We are liaisons with the Port Authority building department, FDNY and other city agencies for various approvals and logistics. 
  • The Commercial Development group also leads multidiscipline architecture, engineering, construction management and contractor teams in developing and implementing innovative improvements to the WTC Campus, with initiatives for Infrastructure such as Resiliency, Sustainability and Security, all in keeping with the vision of the WTC Master Plan.

About the MCP Department:

Major Capital Projects has overall responsibility for the design and construction delivery of the reconstructed the new PABT, PATH Extension to Newark Airport, Gateway Program, WTC site as well as the Cross Harbor Freight Program, and management of World Trade Department contracts and other projects assigned to it. 

 

Qualifications

  • Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program for the upcoming Fall 2022 school semester.
  • We are seeking interns who are talented, driven and who have a genuine interest in contributing to the success of the New York/New Jersey region.
  • We welcome applications from a diverse range of University disciplines and concentrations.
  • Successful candidates will be self-starters with excellent communication, research and applicable technical skills.

 

Desired:

  • Students pursuing bachelor degrees in architecture, engineering or related A/E fields.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications including SharePoint and teams.
  • Pursing a degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management

 

This will be a hybrid internship opportunity, meaning that it will be virtual and in-person throughout the summer.

*This internship is expected to be a full-time internship lasting 12 weeks.
