The Port Authority offers paid summer internships to students that provide the opportunity to work with knowledgeable and experienced professionals on assignments critical to operating, maintaining, and expanding the transportation infrastructure for one of the greatest economies in the world.

Assignments include hands-on projects to cultivate technical, writing, communication and team-building skills. The diversity of our businesses creates a variety of opportunities for students to gain exposure to the work of a first-class public agency

The PATH department is looking for a summer intern to join their team in the Labor Relations Division! Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting research/performing analysis/developing visual presentation on various economic issues pertaining to collective bargaining and arbitration positions
  • Creating electronic storage/filing of various documents pertinent to Labor functions
  • Coordinating various Labor/Management meetings, including bargaining sessions
  • Assisting with special projects as needed

About the Labor Relations Department:

The PATH Labor Relations Department is responsible for collective bargaining, dispute resolution, contract interpretation, and a robust attendance management protocol for approximately 1000 employees represented by 10 unions under the Railway Labor Act. The division facilitates a constructive labor-management relationship to ensure that PATH and PANYNJ objectives are achieved without disruption to rail service caused by labor unrest and conceives/drives the implementation of productivity and process improvements that increase revenue, optimize efficiency, maximize customer service and reduce unnecessary expense.



  • Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program for the upcoming Fall 2022 school semester.
  • We are seeking interns who are talented, driven and who have a genuine interest in contributing to the success of the New York/New Jersey region.

  • Successful candidates will be self-starters with excellent communication, research and applicable technical skills.



  • Proficient in various computer applications such as Microsoft Office/Work/Excel/PowerPoint; social media applications
  • Ability to research, work independently and deliver a complete professional work product
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Excellent reading comprehension skills
  • Ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment with competing responsibilities


This will be an in-person internship opportunity.

*This internship is expected to be a full-time internship lasting 12 weeks.

Recruitment Timeline:
