Summer Intern - Tunnels, Bridges & Terminal: Tolling Group

Responsibilities

The Port Authority offers paid summer internships to students that provide the opportunity to work with knowledgeable and experienced professionals on assignments critical to operating, maintaining, and expanding the transportation infrastructure for one of the greatest economies in the world.

The Tunnels, Bridges & Terminals department is looking for a summer intern to join their team in the Regional E-ZPass – Tolling Roadside Technology & Maintenance unit! Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Supporting the continued maintenance of the toll system, which collects approximately $1.8 Billion annually.
• Reviewing toll collection data and procedures, identify processes for resolving errors in handling violations and in system performance, and recommend solutions for mitigating them in the future.
• Reporting on performance monitoring and analyzing data for possible system issues that will require escalation for resolution. Review image capture and quality.
• Monitoring component performance, identify components in need of replacement and verify spare inventory utilization.
• Collaborating on efforts to increase revenues via Toll Technology, including but not limited to administering the Tag Abuser Mismatch Program to detect truckers using lower class tags which results in revenue recovery.

About the Tunnels, Bridges and Terminals Department: TB&T connects the road networks of NY and NJ through tunnels, bridges, and interstate bus terminals that permit people and goods to move safely, efficiently, and conveniently while generating net income for the PA’s ongoing operations and investment needs.

Qualifications

• Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program for the upcoming Fall 2022 school semester.
• We are seeking interns who are talented, driven and who have a genuine interest in contributing to the success of the New York/New Jersey region.

• Successful candidates will be self-starters with excellent communication, research and applicable technical skills.

Desired

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience in summarizing results of analyses
• PC proficiency with experience in Microsoft Office applications, with strong experience in Excel
• Strong research, analytical and organization skills
• Ability to gather data, perform process analysis, and provide recommendations
• Strong time-management skills and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated productivity in a team environment
• Knowledge of toll systems and/or back office operations is a plus

This will be a hybrid internship opportunity, meaning that it will be virtual and in-person throughout the summer.

*This internship is expected to be a full-time internship lasting 12 weeks.
