Staff External Relations Representative

Responsibilities

The Staff External Relations Representative will work with Government and Community Relations Department (GOCOR) staff, Major Capital Projects and Port Authority Line Departments to provide assistance on government, community, political and public issues to support major capital projects.  Under the direction of GOCOR NJ and the project team, the Staff External Relations Representative will be responsible for assisting External Relations Representatives with various tasks and projects relating to the day-to-day work with ongoing capital projects.    
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist GOCOR External Relations Reps with on-site community outreach coordination and communications with project team and line departments. 
  • Attend project meetings (both internal and with external stakeholders) and schedule, with External Relations Reps, one-on-one meetings (by appointment if required) to respond to resident concerns.  Monitor telephone information line and email communications.
  • Attend external meetings with community leaders, elected officials and local residents.
  • Assist with community meetings, planning and execution, as needed, and with the preparation and writing of communications materials for the project, including but not limited to website content, newsletters, notices, advisories etc.
  • Assist with designing and writing content for project newsletters.

This position will be located at Port Authority Headquarters at 4 World Trade Center and on New Jersey project locations as required.
Note – This is a long term, project position.

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered for the position:

  • Undergraduate college degree in Government/Political Science or related field

  • Ability to work in a challenging environment with varying degrees of pace and multiple responsibilities and tasks.
  • Knowledge of all the players on state and local political platforms, including issues of concern to the agency.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, organize work and prioritize multiple assignments within established deadlines.
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels, as well as all external entities.
