Responsibilities

The Port Authority offers 12-week paid summer internships to students that provide the opportunity to work with knowledgeable and experienced professionals on assignments critical to operating, maintaining, and expanding the transportation infrastructure for one of the greatest economies in the world. 

The JFK Redevelopment Community Information Center is looking for an undergraduate intern to join their team for Summer 2019. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Assist in preparing information and research materials; create and maintain PowerPoint Presentations
  • Answer phone inquiries, direct calls, and provide basic information to community members
  • Prepare executive level briefings and presentations
  • Develop outreach strategies
  • Create and update outreach tools and documents
  • Attend internal & external meetings
  • Participate in facility visits and tours as needed
  • Draft correspondence
  • Lead projects during the entity of the summer (projects to be assigned during the beginning of the internship) 

Note - This internship will be located at the JFK Redevelopment Community Information Center in Jamaica, NY 11435.

Qualifications

  • Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate program in Political Science, Public Policy & Administration, Urban Planning, Communication/Marketing, Sociology or a related field for the upcoming Fall 2019 school semester.
  • We are seeking interns who are talented, driven and who have a genuine interest in contributing to the success of the New York/New Jersey region. 

Candidates residing in the Southeast Queens, Southwest Queens, Rockaways, Elmont, Valley Stream and Five Towns areas are highly encouraged to apply.

Desired

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • Excellent communications skills; strong writer; an understanding of the JFK Redevelopment Program local community , proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; and previous community outreach experience a plus
  • Inquisitive nature
  • Creative problem solver
  • A willingness to travel to meetings and events around targeted communities and 4 World Trade Center

On the job, learning is supported by networking sessions with senior management, intern meet and greets and facility tours; broadening your understanding of the agency.
