Supervisor, Employee Benefits

The Human Resources Department is seeking a Supervisor, Employee Benefits to lead the administration and coordination of the Port Authority’s benefit programs including, but not limited to healthcare, retirement, disability, open enrollment, and benefits compliance. In this role you’d be responsible for day-to-day management and oversight of the entire Benefits division, including coaching for development and daily supervision of work effort.

Reporting to the Manager, Total Rewards, specific responsibilities will include:

  • Manage insurance carrier contracts and relationships, ensuring that customer service and performance guarantees are being consistently met
  • Manage record-keeping processes for division
  • Oversee the implementation and continued success of the Wellness program
  • Primary point person for division projects and implementations
  • Benchmark employees benefits offerings against outside market, ensuring the agency has a strategic advantage in recruiting and retaining top talent
  • Lead division procurements and requests for proposal requests
  • Serve as primary liaison to department’s Service Delivery (call center) team on escalated customer service issues
  • Ensure that all division Standard Operating Procedures are documented and continuously updated


Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with self-insured health and wellness plans for a medium-to-large employer
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years of supervisory experience
  • CEBS designation preferred


Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of filing and compliance requirements both adopted and pending affecting employee benefit programs (i.e. ERISA, COBRA, PPACA, IRS   regulations, Department of Labor, Affordable Care Act)
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Strong analytical, statistical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Well-developed project and process management skills
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite skills with advanced skills in MS Excel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive working relationships with both internal and external partners and customers
  • Experience using PeopleSoft software preferred.
