As an Automotive Mechanic you will utilize your knowledge of automotive technlogy to keep the Port Authority rolling. You will perform complex automotive inspections and identify maintenance repairs and modifications for our vehicle fleet. Automotive Mechanics also grow their skills in a wide variety of duties that require unusual techniques and exceptional judgment to help maintain Port Authority vehicles.
Automotive Mechanics will be responsible for the following duties:
Shifts: Automotive Mechanics work a 40-hour week, which includes rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime as needed an during inclement weather and emergencies.

Compensation & Benefits
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey offers a competitive salary, an outstanding benefits package and a professional environment that supports development and recognizes achievement.
Starting Salary: $35.95 hourly. Automotive Mechanics are eligible for annual step increases up to an annual salary of $96,616.78 (subject to collective bargaining agreement).

The Automotive Mechanic Written Examination is designed to assess candidates’ knowledge in the following areas:

Candidates who qualify on the written exam will be eligible to be considered for the next step in the evaluation process, a practical exam. The practical exam will measure a candidate's knowledge in areas such as mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and/or electrical/electronic inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair
Selected candidates will be subject to a comprehensive background check and medical and may be asked to provide copies of the required licenses for verification.
