Reporting to the Labor Relations Executive, the Labor Relations Representative is responsible for the compilation, updating and tracking of all active disciplinary and medical removal matters with respect to managerial and professional staff, police, represented staff other than police and other non-represented staff.  
Reporting to the Labor Relations Executive, the Labor Relations Representative is responsible for the compilation, updating and tracking of all active disciplinary and medical removal matters with respect to managerial and professional staff, police, represented staff other than police and other non-represented staff.  
Specific responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Coordinating and scheduling of all disciplines and medical removal matters, including dates for hearings, hearing locations,
  • Obtaining dates from and coordinating schedules with arbitrators, impartial hearing officers and court reports;
  • Processing and tracking of payment of all related invoices, such as grievances, panel matters, disciplines and investigations);
  • Preparing, formatting and service of disciplinary charges as assigned;
  • Generating monthly reports;
  • Maintaining an electronic catalogue of disciplinary decisions by topic and summarizing and cataloging those and other discipline decisions by topic; as well as performing other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
  • Keeping a docket of minor discipline and grievances to which the Representative would investigate and respond. 

Note - This will be a long term contract position eligible for benefits

Note - This position will require 3 days per week in office and 2 days per week remote.

Qualifications:

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:
  • Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in human resources , employee relations, and/or labor relations matters or a minimum of 60 college credits from an accredited college or university in Business Administration or other related field.
  • Experience should include drafting, editing and review of specialized and technical documentation.
  • Ability to talk on virtual calls and phone calls with confidence in the Representative’s work product. 

Desired:

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of LawManager, PLI, LiveLink and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • In-depth knowledge of Port Authority organizational structure, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the fundamentals of employment law and labor relations practices and human resources processes, including the Port Authority Labor Relations Instruction and Port Authority Memoranda of Agreement.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (as well as the ability to present to a variety of audiences), including demonstrated experience establishing, interacting and fostering working relationships with a multitude of constituents and stakeholders, Port Authority executives and staff at all levels, Labor Relations Department Management Team members, attorneys and non-attorney staff, judges and other court personnel, law firms, external agencies and other entities.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and resourcefulness in analyzing and resolving a wide-range of matters that arise in the legal environment, as well as the ability to exercise prudent judgment and discretion in handling highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated organizational, project management and time-management expertise, with ability to self-motivate, take initiative and prioritize, handle multiple assignments concurrently, as well as working independently, within tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in effectively persuading, influencing and negotiating with individuals at various levels, internal and external to the organization, to achieve desired outcomes.
