About the Role

 

The Port Authority is seeking to fill a position of Landscape Architect in the Engineering Department’s Design Division, under the supervision of a Principal Architect, and part of a project team in the Architecture Unit.

Landscape Architects are responsible for producing hardscape and landscape designs as stand-alone projects, as part of larger projects or similar elements for entire redevelopment programs.  Work can vary from streetscapes, park designs, green roofs, wetlands mitigation projects, plus airside planting and terminal frontage design, and tree obstruction maintenance at our aviation facilities.

The landscape architects at the Port Authority are a close-knit team that are stewards of the many outdoors spaces owned and managed by the Agency.  They keep the region moving by focusing on our priorities such as Customer Experience, Operational Excellence, Sustainability and our standards such as Global Best Practices, Collaboration and Speed.

Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for planning (Pre-Stage I), preliminary design (Stage I), design development (Stage II), contract documents (Stage III), shop drawing review and post award design changes (Stage IV), standards review and cost estimating for in-house Landscape designs.
  • You will design landscape architectural deliverables, coordinate and/or collaborate with supervisors, other Architecture Unit team members and other engineering disciplines, including consultants, if required.
  • You will receive technical guidance for unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval of proposed project plans.
  • Depending on the assignment, you may act as a subject matter expert and perform technical audits.
  • You may act as Project Architect on landscape-lead assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a landscape architectural program accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accrediting Board (LAAB).  
  • A minimum of two (2) yearsexperience in all phases of design.
  • A design portfolio and/or work samples must be submitted with the application.
  • Valid driver’s license.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • A landscape architectural license in either the states of New York or New Jersey or an interest in attaining licensure.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, as well as the demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and function in a team environment.
  • Superior oral communication, written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and the AutoCAD Architectural Desktop in its most recent release. 
  • Experience in Sketch-Up, Rhino, and other graphic software.
  • Familiarity with sustainable design issues and LEED is highly desirable.
