***THIS POSTION IS A 5-YEAR CONTRACT POSITION OF NY/NJ RAIL AND NOT WITH THE PORT AUTHORITY OF NY & NJ*** This position will require the incumbent to travel independently to the various Port Commerce facilities and construction sites within the facility, both of which are not easily accessible via public transportation. The Managing Director at NYNJR is the principal executive officer responsible for the leadership and strategic management of the railroads operations. This role shall have general responsibility for the day-to-day management of the operations, including the following: company profit/loss; operations; labor relations; management and coordination of financial and accounting activities; government and community relations, business and labor contracts and negotiations; business development; safety and regulatory programs and corporate policies.
- Direct and manage company operations, ensuring efficient and safe freight rail transportation services in Greenville, NJ, Brooklyn, NY, and across Upper New York Bay via car float operation.
- Ensure strict compliance with all railroad rules, safety regulations, and Federal Railroad Association (FRA) guidelines.
- Represent NYNJR interests to government officials, elected leaders, and industry events to promote business development and support.
- Develop and implement strategic business plans that support the companys mission and objectives, while overseeing capital improvements and infrastructure development projects. Monitor facilities and develop and implement maintenance plans as appropriate.
- Market NYNJR freight opportunities, cultivate customer relations, and regularly communicate with business stakeholders.
- Supervise a diverse workforce of approx. 15 employees. Set company policies, direct and approve labor decisions, overtime, and compliance with all state and federal policies. Recruit and hire new employees in conformance with strategic plans and business needs.
- Maintain and enhance relationships with key industry partners such as Conrail, CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern Railway, and the New York & Atlantic Railway.
- Provide general oversight of financial and accounting operations and financial performance of the railroad, ensuring fiscal activities are aligned with established principles and conducted in collaboration with accounting professionals.
- Lead labor relations as directed by Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ), including negotiations with unions and managing company policies that affect personnel.
- Foster positive government and community relations.
- Devote a minimum of 36.25 hours per week to fulfill the responsibilities of the role, with additional time as required by company needs.
- Travel frequently to various company and PANYNJ locations for operational oversight and management.
- Serve as Facility Security Officer and maintain US Coast Guard mandated Facility Security Plans for Greenville Yard and Brooklyn Facilities.

Qualifications: |
Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:
- 10+ years of experience in railroad operations with comprehensive understanding and demonstrated knowledge of train movement, employee crafts, and clerical responsibilities.
- 5+ years supervisory experience in railroad operations. Similar transportation/logistics operations may be considered with the requisite railroad experience.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to oversee large-scale projects and initiatives.
- Knowledge of FRA requirements specific to railroad operations and train movement.
- Solid background in financial management, business development, and operations.
- Negotiating skills and experience in labor relations.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and ethical conduct.
- Bachelors degree in transportation, business, or similarly related field.
