Selected candidate will be required to pass a Federal Security Background check and obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) to work in a maritime environment as required by Department of Homeland Security.
This position will require the incumbent to travel independently to the various Port Commerce facilities and construction sites within the facility, both of which are not easily accessible via public transportation.
Responsibilities:
The Port Department’s mission is to develop and manage competitive port infrastructure and service by providing leadership to expedite movement of cargo in a secure, environmentally, and financially sound manner. The Business Development and Industry Relations unit within the Port Department is seeking a Senior Logistics Analyst to join their team. Reporting directly to the Manager, Strategic Analysis and Industry Relations, the selected candidate will be responsible for the administration and management of the Port of New York & New Jersey’s Foreign-Trade Zone (FTZ) No. 49 Program and assist in the execution of marketing programs and business initiatives to promote business in the Port of NY & NJ to the container, bulk, break bulk, and auto industries.
- Manage the FTZ authorization and activation processes for customers who seek to operate with FTZ No. 49.
- Promote FTZ No. 49 to heighten awareness of the program to various target audiences and generate interest in utilizing the zone.
- Prepare Annual Report for FTZ No. 49, as required by the Foreign-Trade Zones Board, U.S. Department of Commerce.
- Represent the Port Authority with local and national government agencies (U.S. Customs, USDA, FDA, Fish & Wildlife) on regulations and processes affecting the port and facilitation of trade.
- Promote the Port of New York & New Jersey to potential users of FTZ No. 49 and actively participate with the National Association of Foreign Trade Zones
- Support Port Efficiency initiatives to ensure cargo fluidity at the Port of New York & New Jersey, including regional warehouse/distribution center outreach and improvements to trucker experience.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with port stakeholders and provide departmental staff with information obtained pertaining to the industry’s operational and/or service needs and concerns, in-line with all Port Business Development and Industry Relations (BDIR) priorities.
- Synthesize information garnered from industry contacts and experience into actionable items by the Department to improve the Port’s competitive position and level of customer service.
Qualifications:
Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a concentration in international business, marine transportation, supply chain management, logistics, or other related field from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience in the shipping industry in FTZ operations, customs, and/or finance.
Desired:
Ideal candidates will present the following profile:
- Demonstrated understanding of PONYNJ marine terminals as well as ancillary services including rail;
- Demonstrated understanding of Port Authority operations, marketing and business development;
- Demonstrated understanding of and experience in the international logistics system from factory door to store shelf, including major companies involved in each link in the logistics chain;
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Foreign Trade Zone operations;
- Demonstrated ability to link customer needs with new service opportunities;
- Understanding of cargo markets, trends, and opportunities;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills that demonstrate a proven ability to develop relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders;
- Ability to influence decision makers;
- Ability to speak with authority and expertise to groups of industry professionals;
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
