The Aviation department is looking for a Ground Transportation intern to join their Properties & Commercial Development, Transportation Strategies team!

About the Properties & Commercial Development Unit:

The Aviation Commercial Properties unit manages a portfolio of commercial transaction and revenue strategies across five airports, including John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, New York Stewart International Airport, and Teterboro Airport. The portfolio of projects ranges from terminal redevelopment to cargo operations, ground transportation, concessions, and rental car operations at each airport. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the deployment of a Virtual Taxi Queue digital solution at EWR and LGA that enables taxi drivers to join the airports’ taxi dispatch queues from their mobile phones
  • Assist the Ground Transportation Senior Airport Permit Coordinator with collection of For-Hire-Vehicle documentation associated with commercial privilege permits
  • Perform varied assignments to further support ground transportation initiatives, including research on best practices used in the management of for-hire vehicles at airports domestically and internationally, as well as other tasks supporting parking and rental car business areas, as may be needed

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program through the Fall 2024 semester (August 2024 or beyond)
  • Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region
  • Interest in public service and/or transportation
  • Willingness to learn

Desired:

  • Strong interest in airport commercial management, ground transportation and parking, and business process improvement
  • Capable of managing projects efficiently, meeting deadlines, and reporting progress in a timely manner
  • Excellent business writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to build relationships with diverse sets of internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Port Authority staff and tenants)
  • Familiarity with financial terminology and basic accounting principles

Internship Details:

  • The start date will be Thursday, May 30 with an orientation that will take place at 4 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan
  • The internship will last 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 23
  • This is a full-time internship (generally 5 days per week at 7.25 hours of work per day plus a 45-minute break)
  • This internship is expected to be hybrid, partially virtual and partially in-person at 4 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan
  • The hourly salary range is $17.20 to $28.85 (the hourly salary is determined by internship type and school year)
