The Aviation Department is looking for an intern to join their EWR Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) team!

Responsibilities:
- Assist ARFF operational personnel and command staff with maintaining a state of readiness
- Conduct research of applicable electric vehicle and electric ground power unit fire tactics
- Research applicable consensus standards as it relates to standard operating guidelines
- Assist the Deputy Fire Chief of New Jersey airports with research on alternatives to fluorinated foam
Qualifications:
- Enrollment in an undergraduate of graduate program through the Fall 2024 semester (August 2024 or beyond)
- Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region
- Interest in public service and/or transportation
- Willingness to learn
Desired:
- Graduate-level student majoring in Public Administration, Business, Human Resources, Fire Science, or a related discipline
- Fire service experience which could include fire explorer, fire cadets, or Firefighter I completion
- Understanding of National Fire Incident Reporting System, emergency systems, and incident command systems
- Ability to work without supervision, multitask, work well under pressure, and take initiative
- Ability to translate ideas, data, and practices into a succession planning manual
- Interpersonal, teamwork, time management, critical thinking, research, analysis

Internship Details:
- The start date will be Thursday, May 30 with an orientation that will take place at 4 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan
- The internship will last 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 23
- This is a full-time internship (5 days/week)
- The format is expected to be hybrid, partially virtual and partially at Newark Liberty International Airport
- The hourly salary range is $17.20 to $28.85 (Salary to be determined by internship type and school year)
