The Aviation Department is looking for an intern to join their EWR Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) team!

Responsibilities:

  • Assist ARFF operational personnel and command staff with maintaining a state of readiness
  • Conduct research of applicable electric vehicle and electric ground power unit fire tactics
  • Research applicable consensus standards as it relates to standard operating guidelines
  • Assist the Deputy Fire Chief of New Jersey airports with research on alternatives to fluorinated foam

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in an undergraduate of graduate program through the Fall 2024 semester (August 2024 or beyond)
  • Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region
  • Interest in public service and/or transportation
  • Willingness to learn

Desired:

  • Graduate-level student majoring in Public Administration, Business, Human Resources, Fire Science, or a related discipline
  • Fire service experience which could include fire explorer, fire cadets, or Firefighter I completion
  • Understanding of National Fire Incident Reporting System, emergency systems, and incident command systems
  • Ability to work without supervision, multitask, work well under pressure, and take initiative
  • Ability to translate ideas, data, and practices into a succession planning manual
  • Interpersonal, teamwork, time management, critical thinking, research, analysis
  • Adaptability 
  • Receptiveness 

Internship Details:

  • The start date will be Thursday, May 30 with an orientation that will take place at 4 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan
  • The internship will last 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 23
  • This is a full-time internship (5 days/week)
  • The format is expected to be hybrid, partially virtual and partially at Newark Liberty International Airport
  • The hourly salary range is $17.20 to $28.85 (Salary to be determined by internship type and school year)
