Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief of Quality Assurance and the Construction Inspection Unit Manager, the successful candidate performs inspections of the Vertical Transportation (VT) systems (Elevators, Escalators, Moving Walks, Dumbwaiters and Material Lefts); performs acceptance inspections and life safety tests for new construction; performs annual inspections for existing equipment in accordance with the applicable codes to ensure safety.

Specific responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Performs acceptance inspections of the newly installed VT systems in accordance with the approved design documents and applicable codes.
  • Performs annual inspections of the existing VT systems in accordance with the applicable codes to ensure that each system can remain in service safely.
  • Prepares inspection reports documenting non-conforming items and follow through for final disposition.
  • Recommends the issuance of the Certificate of Completion and a Permit to Occupy or Use

Qualifications 

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Four years of experience responsible for inspection and testing of VT systems
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and maintain effective working relationship with peers and all levels of management.
  • Demonstrated ability to reach sound judgment effectively.
  • Valid Driver’s license 

Desired

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • QEI Certification
  • Professional Engineering License in NY & NJ
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
