Responsibilities:

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey is offering employment opportunities for Bridge Painter. Performs journey level work including, scraping, brushing, preparing and painting steel bridge surfaces at heights up to 600 feet; rigs scaffold, blocks and other equipment necessary for the job at any Port Authority facility.

May be assigned to do this type of work at any PA facility based on PA needs. 

Qualification

  • A four-year standard or vocation high school diploma, or GED.
  • Three years full-time paid work experience in the general or heavy structural maintenance fields at or above the level of General Maintainer or its equivalent.
  • Licensing/Certification Requirements: Candidates must possess the following:
  • Valid driver license with the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B  with Air Brakes, Tank Vehicle, and HAZMAT endorsements permit before the first day of work.  Applicants should refer to the following website for further information on obtaining a CDL and medical clearance for CDL licensing:

  • Must be able to work at extreme heights.

Desired:

  • Experienced Rigging.
  • Knowledge of operating and maintaining Jobsite equipment such as Skid Steer, Compressors.
  • Experience with rough carpentry.
  • Knowledge of different types of scaffolding.

Test

Applicants under consideration will be contacted via email for testing.

Selected qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a in the assessment process which consists of written and practical examinations.

Written Test: The written test will measure the candidate's knowledge in the following areas: selection and use of hand & power tools; rigging & scaffolding, rope tying & knots; basic metal installation, carpentry & painting; and safety procedures.

Performance Test: Each candidate will be required to first pass a Height-Qualifying test. Candidates who successfully pass the Height test will then participate in a performance test designed to measure the candidate's ability in the following areas such as: rope tying and knots; rigging and scaffolding work; metal surface preparation and safety.
