Summer Intern - PATH, Capital Project Management

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey offers paid internships to students that provide the opportunity to work with knowledgeable and experienced professionals on assignments critical to operating, maintaining, and expanding the transportation infrastructure for one of the greatest economies in the world. Assignments include hands-on projects to cultivate technical, writing, communication, and team-building skills. PATH is looking for an intern to join their Capital Project Management team! Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Visiting active capital project sites with project managers and assisting in meeting summary preparation and required documentation
• Assisting with monthly financial reporting and invoicing processes in financial reporting systems such as ICMS and SAP
• Assisting with federal grant seeking opportunities for PATH
• Assisting PATH management teams at Journal Square Transportation Center in Jersey City, NJ as well as the Harrison Car Maintenance Facility in Harrison, NJ

About PATH and the Capital Project Management Division:

PATH CPMD supports PATH’s ability to provide our customers with a reliable, efficient ridership experience by replacing assets to maintain the overall system in a state of good repair. Our managers work closely with PATH Operations staff to prioritize these replacements to ensure funding is utilized in the most cost-effective manner.

Qualifications

• Candidates must be students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program returning to their program during the Fall 2023 semester.
• We are seeking interns who are talented, driven, and have a genuine interest in contributing to the success of the New York/New Jersey region.
• We welcome applications from a diverse range of majors/minors.
• Successful candidates will be self-starters with excellent communication, research, and applicable technical skills.

Desired Skills

• Ability to follow specific directions
• Ability to work independently

Internship Details:

• The duration is expected to be approximately 12 weeks, starting in the beginning of June 2023
• This internship will require work 5 days/week at 7.25 hours/day
• The format is expected to be hybrid, partially in-person and partially virtual

About PATH:

The Port Authority Trans Hudson Corporation (PATH), an FRA-regulated commuter railroad, is the primary transit link between Manhattan and New Jersey communities and suburban commuter railroads. Carrying over 75 million passengers per year, PATH trains run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, one of the few 24-hour systems in the world. Since the early 20th Century, PATH and its predecessor, the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad, have carried passengers between New Jersey and points in Midtown and Lower Manhattan, serving as a key link in the region's transportation network and as a catalyst for continued residential, commercial and employment growth.

PATH operates 24 hours per day/7 days per week/365 days per year. Employees are required to work weekends, holidays, atypical hours (evening and midnight shifts) and during inclement weather conditions. Incumbents may be subjected to mandatory overtime at the beginning or end of their scheduled tour, or on their days off. A union seniority system dictates work schedules for jobs represented by one of PATH’s unions, and time off may not be immediately available during the usual summer and holiday periods. Working conditions will be challenging, including but not limited to inclement weather, direct contact with the public, in tunnel and outside areas during active train service, and an industrial environment. Commitment to attendance is expected and required.
