The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey offers paid internships to students that provide the opportunity to work with knowledgeable and experienced professionals on assignments critical to operating, maintaining, and expanding the transportation infrastructure for one of the greatest economies in the world. Assignments include hands-on projects to cultivate technical, writing, communication, and team-building skills. PATH is looking for an intern to join their System Safety & Environmental team! Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Drafting environmental field support documents and file facility hazardous waste manifests.
  • Submitting monthly and quarterly Discharge Monitoring Reports To achieve compliance with PATH’s NJPDES permit.
  • Reviewing and updating PATH’s Spill Prevention and Countermeasures Plan (SPCC).
  • Providing administrative and technical support to comply with PATH’s Underground Storage Tank Program.
  • Conducting periodic station safety inspections and accompany SS&EM staff on inspections and investigations.
  • Assisting with PATH’s internal safety, environmental, training, and rulemaking programs
  • Conducting respiratory fit tests and file documentation.
  • Assisting the Manager with Projects related to FRA Regulatory Compliance.
  • Potential for special projects as assigned by Manager

About PATH and the System Safety & Environmental Division:

The PATH System Safety & Environmental Management Division (SS&EM) is empowered and authorized to develop, implement, and administer a comprehensive, integrated, and coordinated System Safety Program. This includes a specific plan to identify, prevent, control, and resolve unsafe conditions during the design, construction, testing, operations, and maintenance of the passenger railroad system. The Department is committed to pursuing safety programs that provide for employee and customer safety, fire protection, emergency management, training, environmental programs, sustainability, and hazardous materials management in strict compliance with OSHA, EPA, FRA, and NFPA regulations.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program returning to their program during the Fall 2023 semester.
  • We are seeking interns who are talented, driven, and have a genuine interest in contributing to the success of the New York/New Jersey region.
  • We welcome applications from a diverse range of majors/minors.
  • Successful candidates will be self-starters with excellent communication, research, and applicable technical skills.

Internship Details:

  • The duration is expected to be approximately 12 weeks, starting in the beginning of June 2023
  • This internship will require work 5 days/week at 7.25 hours/day
  • The format is expected to be hybrid, partially in-person and partially virtual, dependent on departmental needs
  • These details are subject to change
