Overview
The Aviation Noise Technical Specialist position is an opportunity to build upon the Port Authority’s successful work in managing aircraft noise from three of the nation’s busiest commercial airports and the busiest general aviation airport in the Northeast. The Aviation Department’s Noise Management Office supports the Port Authority’s goal of minimizing the effect of aircraft noise on surrounding communities while maintaining safe and efficient air transportation facilities. Toward that end, the Noise Office pursues strategies to abate and mitigate noise, educates surrounding communities about aircraft noise, engages with surrounding communities to better understand noise impacts, and responds to the public’s noise concerns.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the manager of the Aviation Noise Office, the selected candidate will assist the manager in daily activities of the unit. The essential functions of the position include but are not limited to: operating and managing Airport Noise & Operations Management System (ANOMS) to analyze noise complaint data to determine trends and causal effects; operating and managing the noise complaint collection system; investigating and validating aircraft noise violations; preparing reports and presentations on noise complaint information and runway operations data; managing the systems related to noise complaint data collection, noise monitor maintenance, and flight tracking data; stay current with the latest regulations and technology governing airport/aviation noise field. The selected candidate will also be required to monitor function of deployed portable noise monitoring units and work with the contractor to troubleshoot the units back to service. This position may require attending meetings with community groups and local elected officials, on occasion, after normal business hours.
