Responsibilities
The Steam and Sprinkler Fitter performs journey level work relating to installing, maintaining, and repairing low- and high-pressure steam and sprinkler systems. Steam and Sprinkler Fitters will serve in a lead capacity over semi-skilled level staff and are responsible with inspecting, troubleshooting and overhauling sprinkler, standpipe, fire protection and associated auxiliary equipment (i.e. pumps, valves, boilers, etc.).
Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
The Port Authority is a 24-hour, 7 days-a-week operation. Steam and Sprinkler Fitters work a 40-hour week, which may include nights, holidays, and responding to emergencies during off hours. Steam and Sprinkler Fitters work at our various Port Authority facilities throughout the New York and New Jersey area.

Note: Applicants must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the Air Brakes endorsement or higher. Applicants without a Class B CDL must obtain a Class B CDL Permit with endorsement before their first day of work and will be required to obtain a Class B CDL with one endorsement within three months of employment.

Witten Test Waived with Certification
Please Note: if a candidate has New York City Fire Department Certificate of Fitness for Standpipe ‘OR’ New York City Fire Department Certificate of Fitness for Sprinkler operation ‘OR’ Certified Master Plumber by the State of New Jersey), their written test will be waived, and they will be directly invited to take our practical.
Successful written-test candidates will be invited to participate in a hands-on practical exam to demonstrate professional trade practices for this job title.

Note: The exam is administered on the Port Authority's behalf by CPS HR Consulting (CPS), a leader in computer-based testing. Compensation & Benefits
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey offers a competitive salary, an outstanding benefits package and a professional environment that supports development and recognizes achievement.
Starting Salary: $36.06 hourly (subject to collective bargaining agreement).
