The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey offers paid internships to students that provide the opportunity to work with knowledgeable and experienced professionals on assignments critical to operating, maintaining, and expanding the transportation infrastructure for one of the greatest economies in the world. Assignments include hands-on projects to cultivate technical, writing, communication, and team-building skills. The Operations Services Department is looking for an intern to join their Office Space and Property Management team! Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Interior Designer/ Architect
  • Field survey Office Space Facilities across NY and NJ properties
  • Produce As- Built Drawings in AutoCAD
  • Create naming/ numbering structure to better track work areas and room types
  • Work with Project and Property Managers to identify critical property assets
  • Assist in creating standards manuals for surveyed facilities
  • Manuals to include: Furniture, Finishes, and Equipment (FF&E)

 About the Office Space and Property Management (OSPM) Division:

OSPM manages the day-to-day operations of approximately 1.2 million square feet, across 10 facilities of the Agency’s office space, occupied by approximately 2,500 Port Authority employees. These facilities include both our NY and NJ headquarters at 4 WTC and 2 Montgomery Street, Jersey City, NJ. We provided the management and coordination of office space interior design including furniture and finishes, ergonomic enhancements, renovations, construction, relocations, furniture keys, as well as Port Authority standards for all Port Authority facilities and leased properties. 

 Qualifications

  • Candidates must be students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program returning to their program during the Fall 2023 semester.
  • We are seeking interns who are talented, driven, and have a genuine interest in contributing to the success of the New York/New Jersey region.
  • We welcome applications from a diverse range of majors/minors.
  • Successful candidates will be self-starters with excellent communication, research, and applicable technical skills.

 Desired Skills

  • Interior Design, Architecture or related majors
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suites- TEAMS, Sharepoint, Word, PowerPoint, Power BI
  • Knowledge of site survey techniques
  • Interest in Property Management functions
  • Interest in Interior Design Finishes. (Furniture and Finish Schedules a plus)

 Internship Details:

  • The duration is expected to be approximately 8 weeks, starting in the beginning of June 2023
  • This internship will require work 5 days/week at 7.25 hours/day
  • The format is expected to be hybrid, partially in-person and partially virtual
  • These details are subject to change
