The Operations Services Department is looking for an Asset Management Data Intern to join their team in the Central Automotive Division! Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Learn the intricacies of automotive fleet asset management via facility site visits, team collaboration, data collection & analysis, and independent research.
  • Support automotive engineers, maintenance technicians, and management staff in ensuring asset data effectively meets daily operational needs.
  • Digitize, extract, standardize, and develop best practices for handling, processing, and increasing accessibility of information from physical records
  • Develop SQL-based queries for monitoring and analyzing quality of automotive asset data.

 About the Operations Services Department:

As the first line of safety management, training, maintenance, and operational support across all The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s lines of business, the Operation Services Department (OSD) is key in the day-to-day experience of the public we serve. Across all the services OSD provides to the Agency, we offer competitive in-house options for facilities to sustainably and efficiently meet the public’s transportation needs. These services are vital in protecting our employees, tenants and patrons, as well as preserving the Agency’s physical and economic assets. OSD consists of employees, across six divisions, that manage corporate and facility support services.

Situated within OSD, Central Automotive Division (CAD) is a one-stop shop for the Port Authority’s fleet management needs. The list of equipment that CAD purchases and maintains includes police cars, pick-up trucks, dump trucks, multi-function snow equipment, generators, sweepers, runway snow blowers, buses, Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) trucks, asphalt hot boxes, paint sprayers, boats, bucket trucks and more. With a replacement value of over $250,000,000 and critical operations that depend on our services, it is imperative that CAD maintain accurate data on the 3100+ assets under its control.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program returning to their program during the Fall 2023 semester.
  • We are seeking interns who are talented, driven, and have a genuine interest in contributing to the success of the New York/New Jersey region.
  • We welcome applications from a diverse range of majors/minors.
  • Successful candidates will be self-starters with excellent communication, research, and applicable technical skills.

Desired

  • Experience working with and manipulating datasets using Excel, SQL, and other information systems.
  • Understanding of information organization fundamentals and ability to apply these principles in ways that overcome problems and enhance team efficiency.
  • Experience with field data collection.
  • Meticulous attention to information quality and consistency.
  • Knowledge of enterprise asset management or the automotive industry is a bonus, but not required.
  • Enthusiasm for learning the ins and outs of field operations at some of the New York Metro’s most iconic transportation facilities.

 Internship Details

  • The duration is expected to be approximately 8 weeks, starting in the beginning of June 2023
  • This internship will require work 5 days/week at 7.25 hours/day
  • The format is expected to be hybrid, partially in-person and partially virtual
  • These details are subject to change
