The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey Engineering is an award-winning national leader in innovative planning, design, and construction of the most critical links of regional and national transportation infrastructure spanning New York and New Jersey.

We are recruiting for our distinguished Engineering & Architecture Associates Program. This is a two-year program designed for exceptional students receiving their degree in Fall 2022, Winter 2022/2023, or Spring 2023. Associates spend their first year rotating across Port Authority facilities completing a series of dynamic work assignments. In their second year, Associates begin working in their permanent assignment. Responsibilities will include supporting the delivery of an ambitious 30+ billion-dollar Capital program at some of the most constrained and busiest transportation facilities in the world, working on mega-projects such as the Port Authority Bus Terminal Replacement, EWR, JFK and LaGuardia Airport redevelopment efforts, Restoring the George Washington Bridge Program, Replacement of the Lincoln Tunnel Helix, PATH expansion to EWR, and the Wharf Replacement Program.

The ideal candidate will be expected to have quality Engineering experience and an innovative, industry-leading, “can-do” mindset to support the Port Authority’s aggressive commitment to continue to lead the Engineering industry. Associates are esteemed individuals that often go on to accept senior leadership positions throughout the agency.

We are currently recruiting for someone to join the program for the Engineering Operations Division:

Engineering Operations partners with all areas within the Engineering Department to enhance the function of the Department, in addition to optimizing Engineering’s overall operation and effectiveness. The Division comprises of an array of professionals that perform the following services:

  • Provision of financial services which includes the preparation and management of the Department’s budget and financial performance, as well manage the Department’s Consultant invoicing and payment, in addition to other financial services,
  • Development and implementation of the Department’s technology, information and access management services, including the consultation, development, testing and implementation of 21st century applications and the technical support of industry leading content platforms to support both the Agency and the Engineering Department
  • Development and management of the Department’s Virtual Design and Construction capabilities and improvement of existing workflows thru digitization, leveraging from the latest industry trends and technologies
  • Data analysis and the management and refinement of Departmental and project performance dashboards and metric reporting, workflow automation and continuous process improvement, standardization and documentation
  • Implementation and optimization of industry best practices and engineering standards, including the evaluation and execution of alternative project delivery methods, application of the latest scheduling, cost estimating and value engineering methodologies

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Students graduating with a bachelor's or master's degree in Architecture or an Engineering discipline in Summer 2022, Fall 2022/Winter 2022, or Spring 2023
  • Candidates must have a clear interest in public service management and possess a record of academic achievement.
  • Candidates are selected based on academic achievement, analytical and communication skills, and work experience.
  • Candidates must have a drivers license or receive one within 6 months of being hired.
