Principal Financial Analyst

Responsibilities

Major Capital Projects has overall responsibility for the design and construction delivery of the new Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT), PATH Extension to Newark Airport, Gateway Program, WTC site as well as the Cross Harbor Freight Program, and management of World Trade Department contracts and other projects assigned to it. 

  • Lead the development of MCP’s multi-year Capital Plan and update the department’s capital project forecasts in ICMS/Cognos.
  • Develop and issue variance analyses comparing monthly spending to budget. 
  • Track costs and authorizations in various areas and issue related reports.
  • Prepare required financial documentation for Board items.
  • Conduct ad-hoc analyses on spending performance, agency allocations, etc., as required. 
  • Review and process consultant and contractor invoices, including entries in SAP.

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field from an accredited college or university. 
  • Three (3) years of experience in accounting, finance, analytics, budgeting, or related field can be substituted for a degree.
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ work experience in a business or financial area; other relevant experience may be considered.

Desired

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • Demonstrated experience with computer software programs, particularly Advanced Microsoft Excel and Port Authority enterprise systems (SAP, BudgetPro, ICMS/Cognos).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Port Authority accounting, financial and budgeting systems and procedures, capital project authorization and reporting processes.
  • Skilled in managing comprehensive analytical projects, with demonstrated ability to set specific timelines and deliverables to achieve goals.
  • Possess strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels as well as outside agencies and industry representatives.
  • Demonstrated superior oral, written and presentation communication skills.
