Responsibilities

The Senior Financial Analyst—Aviation is a key member of the MBD team who is responsible for supporting and providing exemplary customer service to the Port Authority’s Aviation Department, which operates the regions 3 largest airports (LaGuardia, John F. Kenney, and Newark Liberty) and other key facilities including Stewart International and Teterboro airports. This position will work on a team of three within MBD reporting to the Supervising Budget Analyst—Aviation, Port, and World Trade Center and serve as the lead liaison and customer service representative for the Aviation Department’s Financial Services team to problem solve and provide financial expertise, particularly as it relates to Budgeting, financial reporting, and reviewing/approving resource requests.  

 

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • In close coordination with Aviation’s Financial Services team, reviewing and analyzing annual Budget submissions—including Operating Expenses and Gross Operating Revenues—to ensure alignment with Budget targets and planning guidance; 

  • Verifying Budget submissions are properly consolidated in the agency’s enterprise Budget system—BudgetPro—to help prepare the annual Budget Book and other Budget presentations and memorandum for the Board of Commissioners and executive leadership; 

  • Reviewing, evaluating, and presenting monthly financial performance results to ensure financial integrity and alignment with the Budget, including coordinating with the Aviation Department to identify offsets as needed; 

  • Evaluating a wide range of financial programs and initiatives to identify operational impacts resulting from new programs, capital initiatives, and productivity improvements; 

  • Analyzing requests to procure various resources to ensure the greatest and best uses of the agency’s resources and consistency with approved annual Budget; 

  • Participating on RFP committees and task forces to represent the agency’s financial interests.  

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Finance, Accounting or related field is required and a minimum of 3 years of experience in financial analysis, accounting, and/or Budgeting.

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

A customer experience mindset and curiosity to learn about the operations of the Aviation Department; 

Ability to identify and analyze financial and operational issues, and ultimately recommend solutions or alternatives; 

Knowledge of financial, operating, and capital Budgeting processes and/or accounting structures; 

Experience in the Aviation industry in a financial, business, or management role; 

Excellent oral and written presentation skills; 

Proficiency with desktop applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI, and Oracle Hyperion/Essbase;  

Experience with the Port Authority’s corporate systems, including SAP, PeopleSoft, BudgetPro, and Cognos.
