Responsibilities

Senior Stock keepers are responsible for the efficient and safe operation of the Port Authority’s warehouses. They interact with with agency’s staff and vendors with courtsey and professionaly. Senior Stock keepers operate computerized material management systems (e.g. SAP) and perform diverse warehouse activities; including but not limited to the following:

  • Inspection, transportation, storage, and issuance of stock items;
  • Computerized entry of all stock transactions;
  • Physical inventories of stock items;
  • Operation of mechanical equipment such as forklifts and power jacks;
  • Assembly/disassembly of bulk storage racks and relocation of materials and supplies of varying weights. 
  • Senior Stock keepers work at our various Port Authority facilities throughout the NY/NJ area and shift work may be required

This is a 24-hour, 7 days-a-week operation that will involve working rotating shifts and/or irregular shifts, holidays and overtime if necessary.

 

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution is required
  • Two-year’s of work experience in commercial warehousing
  • Ability to operate a forklift and power jack
  • Applicants must possess a valid driver's license
  • Demonstrated effective customer service skills

Desired

The ideal candidate will present the following qualification profile:

  • Working knowledge of SAP or other computerized inventory material management system

Starting Salary: $16.87 hourly (Subject to collective bargaining agreement)

Testing
Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in a written exam that will assess candidates’ knowledge in areas such as: general stock keeping methods and procedures; requisitions, inventory and storage of all types of materials; safety practices; identification of the tools used in various trades; and computations and numerical checking relative to the trade.

Successful written-test candidates will be invited to participate in the Stock keeper Oral Interview and Performance Test. The oral exam will assess the candidate’s abilities in such areas as Situational Judgment, Customer Service, and Oral Communication. Candidates who qualify on the oral exam will be eligible to be considered for the next step in the evaluation process, a practical exam. The practical exam will assess the candidate’s ability to satisfactorily fill requisitions from customers within a given period of time. Time will be given to familiarize yourself with the warehouse catalog, requisition, equipment and warehouse itself.

Selected candidates will be subject to a comprehensive background check.
