Staff Services Engineer, Quality Assurance

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Assistant Chief Engineer, Quality Assurance Division and under the direct supervision of the Unit Manager, Construction Standards and Inspection Unit, the successful candidate will perform audits-inspection for Port Authority contracts and tenant construction projects; conduct audits also for scheduled acceptance inspection and major tests to recommend the issuance of a Permit to Occupy or Use and Certificate of Completion for Chief Engineer’s signature; prepare Inspections Report in a timely manner to identify non-conforming items and follows up for final disposition; audit field records, including Special Inspection Reports for Port Authority contracts. The selected candidate will be assigned to audit independently over 100 projects simultaneously. 
 

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Three years of experience, inspecting various types of fire protection systems and equipment including but not limited to fire pumps, sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, fire/smoke dampers, and special suppression systems.

  • Ability to effectively reach sound conclusion to recommend the issuance of sensitive legal documents
  • Proficiency and effectiveness in written and oral communication skills are essential as well as being physically fit to climb various types of structures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all level.
  • Self-motivated and experienced in working in a team environment
  • Proficient in the use of various computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, SAP
  • Working knowledge of New York City and New Jersey Building and Fire Codes as well as NFPA Standards.
  • NJ certification as a Fire Inspector, Fire Official, or Fire Sub-Code Official is desirable.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
