Senior Engineer, Civil

Responsibilities

Reporting to a Principal Engineer, the Senior Engineer will be primarily responsible for performing preliminary engineering and final design services and act as a Project Engineer complex multi-discipline projects or studies. The Project Engineer coordinates the design services and ensures that projects are delivered in accordance with the Agency’s quality assurance/quality control and project delivery guidelines. The successful candidate will apply their experience of civil infrastructure (pavements, utilities, site design, stormwater management, etc.), including design standards and guidelines (e.g. ASSHTO), to assist in the developing strategies and recommendations related to capital projects and major work programs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Produce quality design services that conform to applicable design standards/guidelines and codes.
  • Negotiate schedules and budgets with Task Leaders and Project Managers.
  • Prepare the civil engineering scope of work and budget for projects or studies.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers in preparing Agency Board items.
  • Provide guidance and direction to junior staff in engineering design approach and civil infrastructure.
  • Perform site inspections at the Agency’s facilities.
  • Participate in and/or conduct meetings.
  • Prepare RFP scope of work and independent staff cost estimate for professional engineering services to be performed by a Consultant. Critically review consultant proposals, negotiate cost, and ensure schedule/budget compliance.
  • Audit consultant engineering studies, designs and contract documents for construction projects.

Additional Information: There are two vacancies for this position.

 

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering college or university. 
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of professional engineering experience in design for civil infrastructure. including any of the following: airfields, stormwater and sanitary sewer collection systems, water distribution systenm, roadway design, pavements, or trackwork
  • Valid driver's license.

Desired

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of New York or State of New Jersey.
  • Working knowledge of guidelines and standards such, but not limited to, FAA circulars, AASHTO or AREMA
  • Demonstrated experience in problem solving, decision making, negotiations and conflict resolution skills to effectively reach sound conclusions and recommendations.
  • Proven ability to lead, manage, and prioritize multiple assignments with multiple disciplines.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work independently and prioritize as required.
  • Proficiency in preparing contract documents; drawings and technical specifications.
  • Excellent presentation and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of software applications Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge in Civil 3D software application.
