The Plumber is a journey-level job title and performs diverse, highly skilled work in the installation, maintenance, repair and inspection of a wide variety of plumbing systems and equipment, such as low and high pressure water systems, sewer lines, drainage systems, gas lines, pumps sewer ejectors, valves, tanks, flushometers, etc. The Plumber also will repair, clean, adjust and/or perform preventative plumbing maintenance on equipment, tools, machinery etc.
Plumbers must have knowledge of plumbing codes and regulations, reading blueprints, and the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose plumbing problems.
The Port Authority operates 24 hours, 7-days a week. Plumbers work a 40-hour week, which may include nights, weekends, holidays, overtime as needed and responding to emergencies during off hours. Plumbers are assigned to work at our various facilities throughout the NY/NJ area.
Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:
• High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution
• Three years of paid work experience in the plumbing field
• Valid Driver's License
• A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the Air Brakes endorsement or higher. Applicants without a CDL must obtain a CDL Permit before their first day of work, and will be required to obtain a Class B CDL with one endorsement, within two months of employment.

The written test will measure your knowledge in areas such as: trade tools and equipment such as water distribution systems, pipes and pipe fittings, troubleshooting and repairs, sprinkler, standpipe and fire protection systems, gas lines, lavatory and hot water fixtures, pumps, drainage systems, hot water heating systems, meter readings, state and municipal codes and safety practices.
Successful written-test candidates will be invited to participate in a hands-on performance test to measure your knowledge and skill in the installation, maintenance and repair of a variety of plumbing fixtures and equipment including gas, water, steam, waste and vent piping systems.
Selected candidates will be eligible for further consideration and will be subject to a comprehensive background check.

Starting Salary: $20.47 hourly. Plumbers are eligible for annual step increases up to an annual salary of $66,612 (subject to collective bargaining agreement).
