Senior Estimator

Responsibilities

We are currently seeking a Senior Estimator for the Engineering Department. Responsibilities include preparation and/or review of the Engineers Estimate for all trades of capital projects at various facilities operated by the Port Authority; maintenance of unit prices for construction activities, the analysis of variances from estimates; participation in Value Engineering and Life Cycle meetings; and other duties as directed. The Senior Estimator may be assigned responsibility for all projects for a selected Line Department (such as Aviation, Ports, PATH, etc.) The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills and have a broadly-based knowledge of the construction industry.

Please Note: The position is located at 2 Montgomery St. (Exchange Place), Jersey City, NJ 07302.

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Possess at least eight (8) years of construction estimating experience and demonstrated ability to estimate projects across multiple trades.
  • Experience across a wide variety of building, transportation, site and infrastructure projects, reflecting the mission of the Port Authority.
  • Proficiency in quantity takeoffs.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Excel, and experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Possess excellent oral, written (including drawings), and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple, landmark projects with varied team members and at a fast pace.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and monitoring construction budget expenditures across all levels of design, including order-of-magnitude budgets and change orders.
  • Familiarity with labor productivities and work rules in the PA area (both NY and NJ).
  • Willingness to work in a public-sector environment.
  • Prior supervisory experience; a track record of positive customer service.
  • Third-party certification as an estimator, from ASPE, RICS, AACE or similar association.
  • Prior experience working in a construction trade.
  • Experience with design-build delivery methods.
