This position is with the Office of Environmental and Energy Programs. The selected candidate will serve as Sustainability Specialist (SS) supporting the Sustainability Manager in the design, development and implementation of environmental sustainability and climate change related programs. The SS will support the annual greenhouse gas emissions inventory and its associated verification efforts, working with internal and external stakeholders as well as managing consultants.
The SS will also be responsible for internal and external communications efforts including voluntary reporting initiatives and departmental performance updates. The SS will also be instrumental in the design of strategic and targeted marketing materials as well as designing and coordinating sustainability related events.
*Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science, engineering, policy or management. Aptitude in project management, economics or data analytics and reporting.
*Advanced degree in environmental/sustainability policy or management, public administration, business or related field with aptitude in communications or data science preferred.
This position provides an excellent opportunity for a highly competent, creative, driven candidate to interface with various Port Authority departments and learn about sustainability strategy and management and the implementation and roll out of clean technology at the agency’s NY and NJ facilities. The assignment will also aid the agency by advancing programs and promoting sustainability more broadly through targeted communications strategies, events and external reporting.
*Demonstrated experience working in environmental sustainability and climate change from a policy or management perspective
*Demonstrated management and organizational experience, with the ability to coordinate and communicate complex sustainability topics with Port Authority facility staff, stakeholders and contractors
* Strong understanding of GHG emissions accounting standards with experience across heavy industry, transportation and infrastructure
*Demonstrated quantitative and analytical skills, including performance measurement.
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with multiple stakeholders and sectors from private and public sectors
*Demonstrated initiative and high emotional intelligence.
*Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to make concise presentations to a variety of audiences.
*Experience in communications and marketing efforts as well as planning and coordination of events
*Knowledgeable about transportation related technologies and infrastructure
*Experience in GHG accounting and data management and reporting.
*Climate action and sustainability planning processes
*Familiarity with current local, state, and federal environmental policy, and legislation a plus.
