Senior Structural Engineer - JFK Redevelopment (project)

Reporting to a Principal Structural Engineer of the Engineering Design Division, the Senior Engineer, acting as Project Engineer, will audit structural design criteria, preliminary and final design, construction staging and construction support services for the JFK Redevelopment Program through year 2024. The Senior Engineer will provide critical guidance to all stakeholders, in conformance with current NYC Building Codes, AASHTO Specifications, NYSDOT Standards, Port Authority Structural Design Guidelines and the PA Tenant Construction Manual. The Senior Engineer will coordinate the design services between disciplines and ensure that projects are delivered in conformance with the Agency’s QA/QC and project delivery guidelines.

Additional Information:

This is a long-term Project position associated with JFK Airport Redevelopment .  This is expected to last three (3) years with a possible extension.

Selected candidate will work on-site full time from Four World Trade Center, NY, NY as well as JFK Airport, Queens depending on project specific needs and meetings. 


Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering college or university.
  • Professional Engineer license in the State of New York
  • Minimum of 12 years of professional structural design and supervisory experience, including experience on both small scale and major design projects (projects with $5 million or more construction contract value.)
  • Design experience in the field of structural engineering, with a high concentration in design of short and medium span bridges, design of buildings and ancillary structures, and construction techniques.
  • Working knowledge of all local codes and ordinances governing the design of building/bridge/waterfront structures and their facilities, including but not limited to the NYC Building Code, IBC code, Unified Facilities Criteria and AASHTO Specifications for Highway Bridges.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license.


Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering college or university.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-discipline design team.
  • Proven ability to lead, manage and prioritize multiple high profile, multi-discipline engineering assignments.
  • Strong conceptualization, problem solving, decision-making and conflict resolution skills from experience in routine and large-scale transportation projects.
  • Sound understanding of construction engineering.
  • Structural inspection experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work independently and prioritize as required.
  • Proficiency in preparing contract drawings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills, including experience making presentations to staff and outside stakeholders.
  • Experience and proficiency in the use of computer software for structural analysis and design.
  • Proficiency in the use of software such as Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
