The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s Human Capital Department has an opening for a Diversity & Veteran Recruiter to spearhead our outreach and diversity recruitment strategy. In this role, you will be responsible for building out and enhancing this strategy by managing relationships with external organizations and coordinating and attending outreach events to help the agency build a more diverse workforce.

Working as part of the Talent Acquisition team, this position partners closely with our recruiters, Diversity & Inclusion team, HR Analytics, Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and Learning and Development team to develop and implement strategies to attract, onboard and retain diverse talent in the agency.

In this role, you will provide overall direction and management for the full-cycle veteran & diversity recruiting strategy including workforce planning, candidate outreach, candidate selection and relationship management in an effort to brand The Port Authority of NY&NJ as an employer of choice for veterans and diverse talent. Using a data driven approach, you would identify opportunities to enhance diversity throughout the organization and provide advice and recommendations to departments and HR partners on outreach opportunities and track progress on outreach efforts.

This position will require local and overnight travel.

  • Develop an integrated diversity recruitment strategy across departments encompassing all facets of diversity including veterans
  • Manage partnerships with non-profit and military friendly organizations, as well as student and professional organizations to recruit veterans and diverse talent
  • Foster a culture of continuous development through partnerships with external organization and internal Talent Management team to offer targeted training that advances the mission of the outreach and recruitment strategy for veterans and diverse talent
  • Assess efficacy of programming and strategy with technologically-enhanced, data-driven approach
  • Coordinate veteran & diversity recruitment campaigns across multiple channels including sourcing potential applicants for open positions (e.g., associations, social media, email marketing, events, etc.) and attend various outreach events focused on veteran & diversity recruitment
  • Serve as a resource to the Talent Acquisition team in the recruitment, screening, interviewing of candidates with diverse backgrounds, including military background
  • Manage full cycle recruitment for positions that have challenges with veteran and diverse talent pools


Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with four (4) or more years of recruiting experience. An additional four (4) years of experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience of specific focus in diversity and/or military recruitment; this experience should include using data to drive decision making
  • Experience using passive, online, and event sourcing techniques
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of time


Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • Proficiency in utilizing a variety of recruitment strategies to include cold calling and direct sourcing
  • Experience with internet job boards, job posting, networking and other online resources
  • Experience with recruitment performance metrics
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong customer orientation
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information such as job descriptions, business articles, etc.
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, executives, candidates and the public
  • Experience working with multiple Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)
