Senior Compensation Analyst

Responsibilities

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey is seeking a Senior Compensation Analyst in the Human Resources Department to join their Total Rewards team! In this role, you’d have the opportunity to work on a variety of ongoing compensation initiatives.

Reporting to the General Manager, Total Rewards, this job is responsible for performing the full range of job classification and non-represented employee compensation activity for the agency.  This job performs complex analysis to determine the proper category and level of jobs, and performs quantitative analysis related to employee pay and makes recommendations on compensation policy. 

The selected candidate will have the primary responsibility for evaluating and classifying jobs per department requests for position upgrades and other position changes and recommend the appropriate classification action.  Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Administering the market pricing system to include:
    • Benchmarking agency jobs to the correct survey job.
    • Determining appropriate market reference range for jobs.
    • Researching and recommending surveys to price jobs.
    • Overseeing, updating and maintaining Market Pay System.
    • Managing survey submission to survey companies, and receipt/analysis of survey results.
    • Recommending policy and procedures for market pricing of jobs.
    • Recommending changes to Market Reference Ranges, job matches, and job titles as appropriate.
  • Researching, evaluating and making recommendations on compensation actions such as salary adjustments, starting salaries, promotional increases, salary range adjustments, special compensation and rewards programs, and others as required.
  • Performing salary related quantitative analysis as needed using concepts such as mean, median, mode, percent increases, compa-ratio, penetration ratio, weighted averages, variance, etc.
  • Evaluating and/or classifying jobs as required for such things as FLSA status, job family, track code, etc.  Provide guidance on classification matters to the agency.
  • Managing the unit inventory of ad-hoc, planning and compensation related surveys including selection of surveys for participation, completion of surveys and analysis of results.
  • Creating, editing, interpreting and maintaining job descriptions for the agency's jobs as required, while taking every opportunity to expand inventory of job descriptions.
  • Recommending changes to salary administration policies to better support agency.
  • Supporting Human Resource and agency projects and initiatives as appropriate.

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field with three or more years of compensation related experience or associated degree with 5+ years of compensation related experience.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with experience performing quantitative analysis.

Desired

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • Knowledge of regulatory and legal directives governing compensation administration.
  • Knowledge of job classification systems and basic organization design concepts.
  • Proficiency in use of MS Office suite, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to interact with staff at all levels.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Graduate degree in HR or related field.
  • Coursework in statistics, organization design, or compensation.
  • HR certification (CCP, PHR, SPHR, etc.)
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft and/or SQL.
  • Familiar with MarketPay Marking Pricing System.
