Maintenance Unit Supervisor

Responsibilities

The Aviation Department is looking for a Maintenance Unit Supervisor to join their team at John F. Kennedy Airport! Under the direction of the General Maintenance Supervisor, the selected individual will be responsible for providing oversight of all maintenance for the AirTrain Facilities.  This position will primarily provide technical expertise/oversight, conduct facility audits and inspections, and create work requests and follow up of corrective maintenance as it relates to all areas of the AirTrain Facilities/Plant Maintenance.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Knowledge of maintenance equipment, procedures and the work methods of various trades; understand safety practices and related national codes; be able to read and plan work from drawings and blueprints, and be knowledgeable in environmental regulations and ADA compliance related to buildings and structures.

  • Knowledge of fire alarm monitoring systems to include: fire detection device operation, testing procedures, and document recording as well as fire protection systems to include: sprinkler system valves, sprinkler heads, pull stations, and water flow switches.

  • Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in installing, repairing and maintaining heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment.

  • Strong experience in the assembly, installation, repair, design, modification, alteration of vertical circulation equipment (elevators, escalators and moving walkways).

  • Strong, working knowledge of and the ability to interpret the Building Code, Elevator/Escalator Code and other rules, regulations and legislation as they apply.

  • Strong experience in the repair, maintenance and testing of and Fire Protection and Fire Detection Systems.

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution is required

  • Must have three (3) years maintenance experience at or above the journey-level or equivalent

  • At least three (3) years of experience with contract management and administration.

  • Must posess Valid Driver's License

The selected candidate is required to participate in the Airport Snow Removal Program and must be able to respond to declared emergencies, including snow conditions and work on an overtime basis as a regular function of the job.

The successful candidate must be able to pass a fingerprint-based criminal history record check as mandated by 49 CFR 1542 and will be required to obtain and maintain an airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) ID CARD with airfield driving privileges.

Desired

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • Knowledge of the principals of a work order system Maximo

  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical systems.

  • Knowledge of typical building structures including roof design and components.

  • Ability to support investigations to identify root causes of equipment and subsystem failures.

  • Proficient in the use of various computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.

  • Ability to be persuasive with staff at all levels, and interact with customers and tenants in a professional manner. 

  • Knowledge and use of Building Management Systems (BMS) and other monitoring systems (SCADA, etc.)

  • Ability to read, interpret and analyze electrical and electromechanical schematics and drawings.

  • Ability to perform building inspections and report deficiencies.

  • Demonstrated experience in exercising independent judgment in determining irregular operating conditions.

  • Must have experience with facility cleaning and snow removal contractors.

  • Experience with supervising contractors, teams, and projects, with internal and external partners.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and critical-thinking abilities.
