Senior Accounting Supervisor, Financial Accounting & Reporting

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Assistant Manager, Financial Accounting & Reporting, the successful candidate will provide functional leadership in the Agency’s core financial and reporting systems and act as liaison between the Technology Department, SAP consultants, and Comptroller’s Department end users. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Work with financial accounting staff and various departments/divisions within the Port Authority on development, preparation, control and maintenance of numerous GAAP and Statutory financial reports used by senior management throughout the agency
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the SAP general ledger database by establishing effective monthly, quarterly and yearly closing controls
  • Integrate knowledge of accounting standards into SAP financial reports
  • Provide technical assistance to staff in the monthly closing process, and maintenance of master data
  • Participate in external audit - assemble and review system data to be delivered to external auditors for semiannual and annual audit
  • Provide agency-wide training, guidance and expertise on financial system related issues.

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business or Finance with concentration in accounting from an accredited college or university
  • Five years’ experience working in a corporate or public accounting environment

Desired

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • Demonstrated experience in SAP report writing
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret, research and apply accounting theory (GAAP)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, both written and orally
  • Demonstrated experience in conveying complex and/or sensitive information throughout the Agency
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising, training and developing staff
