Senior Architect

Responsibilities

Report to the Manager, Design Standards Unit, Quality Assurance Division, and under the direct supervision of the Assistant Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing architectural design documents for tenant projects at Port Authority facilities to compliance with applicable construction codes and Port Authority technical standards.

 

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: analyzing and reviewing drawings, specifications, reports, studies, etc., for compliance with codes and standards; assist Manager and Assistant Manager as a technical specialist; supervise staff architect in specific technical discipline; prepare technical reports documenting evaluation/inspections results; coordinate and compile comments from other technical disciplines and prepare memoranda for transmittal to the facility; meet and discuss non-compliance items with tenant’s design consultants for resolution.

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from an accredited college or university.
  • Ten or more years of experience in architectural design and code analysis.
  • Familiarity with the building codes in New York City, State of New York, and State of New Jersey, and familiarity with other applicable construction codes.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license

Desired

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • Registered Architect license in State of New York and/or New Jersey is preferable.
  • Demonstrate experience in working independently, and skills in problem solving and decision making. Ability to guide technical staff performing architectural review for code compliance
  • Proficiency and effectiveness in written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all level
  • Self-motivated and experienced working in a team environment
  • Proficient in the use of various computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
