Senior Airport Architect/Engineer, Aviation Planning, All Airports

The Aviation Department of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is currently seeking an experienced Senior Airport Architect/Engineer to join the airport terminal planning team that will help transform JFK into a world-class 21st Century airport. This position will focus primarily on the delivery of terminal planning products for the two new major international terminals at JFK with additional planning projects across other facilities.

The Senior Airport Architect/Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Preparation and delivery of airport planning products contributing to the development of 4 million square feet new terminal spaces and transforming traveler experience from landside to terminal & airside at JFK airport. 
  • Planning deliverables include: conceptual & functional plans, feasibility & alternative studies and capacity & demand analyses.
  • Planning activities encompassing airside, terminal and landside components of all five airports (JFK, EWR, LGA, TEB & SWF) in the system. 
  • Assisting the Federal Grant Program Manager with the preparation of Airport Capital Improvement Program(ACIP) documents, as well as the coordination of the administrative tasks for Aviation’s Call-in Consultants Program. 
  • Travel to all airports as needed.


Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Engineering.
  • Minimum Three (3) years’ experience in Aviation facility planning and design where you have analyzed airport terminal and other infrastructure’s needs, set priorities & developed planning strategies.
  • Experience preparing and delivering contracts, Requests for Proposal (RFP), tenant lease site plans, terminal or other airport infrastructure functional drawings, conceptual drawings or presentation materials
  • Experience utilizing Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Advisory Circulars in airport terminal and master planning, zoning, airport design, capacity & demand, AIP grant and state & local codes & industry design standards.


Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • Demonstrated ability to devise innovative solutions to airport terminal planning problems, resolve conflicts independently & make sound decisions.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and world-class airport facilities planning and design.
  • Knowledge of ACAD, Revit, TAAM, VISSIM tools.
  • Registered Architect or Professional Engineer (PE) License in State of New York or New Jersey.
