Sr. Networking Engineer - Marine Terminals (project)

Responsibilities

Project management and oversight of the flood repair effort at the New Jersey Marine Terminals in Newark/Elizabeth, NJ. Oversight is required to ensure that communications infrastructure, cabling, and equipment are restored to a fully operating and redundant state.   • Overseeing all aspects of network planning, designs, implementation, and activation work
  • Performing network analysis of requirements for design and redundancy
  • Performing site surveys, validating customer and system requirements, and proposing network solutions to repair networks and meet the functional requirements
  • Determining space, environmental, cabling, uplink, and network addressing needs
  • Planning, creating, and modifying detailed designs in support of network Moves/Adds/Changes
  • Adhering to network hardware, software, design, process, and deployment standards
  • Reviewing Scopes of Work (SOWs), Bills of Materials (BOMs), and network designs for accuracy
  • Creating task lists and assisting with project planning steps as well as effort levels
  • Identifying risks potentially impacting implementation, timeline, and technical success of each initiative and deployment effort
  • Overseeing staging of network hardware and software
  • Generating and executing implementation plans to deploy functional systems
  • Fully deploying network solutions, including installation of all types of network equipment, responsively troubleshooting outstanding issues, and providing documentation to complete network turnovers
  • Overseeing third-party involvement in implementation process
  • Configuring network devices, including routers, switches, controllers, access-points, appliances, UPS systems, and other equipment
  • Activating new network connectivity to provide access to PAWANET, critical resources for the Port facilities, and external sources
  • Facilitating backbone interconnections with other facilities to ensure a robust network infrastructure
  • Testing network functionality and redundancy to confirm availability and failover for networking services
  • Documenting infrastructure changes, including cabling, equipment, and critical uplinks
  • Updating and presenting project status to line departments, management, project managers, and others as needed or requested
  • Performing operational support on an as-needed basis
  • Driving to multiple facilities as requested/required
  • Making emergency network and network service changes where necessary
  • Supporting of off-hours work as requested/required

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Applicants must meet all performance and attendance standards and have completed all probationary periods.
  • Experience as a manager, leading a technical networking group of administrators / engineers or leading technical networking project teams for a minimum of two (2) years
  • Experience as an individual contributor of hands-on network engineering / deployment work for a minimum of four (4) years
  • Capability to plan, design, and implement networking solutions across various networking disciplines
  • Capability to work in various locations onsite at facilities and remain mobile, productive, functional, and reachable
  • Capability to lift and mount/rack network equipment as necessary to support the implementations
  • Capability to operate/manage networking technologies deployed within the infrastructure
  • Excellent written and oral communication (In English) required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study plus 2-4 years of experience required.  4-7 years of experience in Networking Project Management may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Technical experience and capability in the following areas:

  • Proficient in network design concepts including TCP/IP, network topology, routing concepts and protocols (EIGRP, BGP, etc), and switching topology and protocols (bridging, STP, RSTP, REP, etc)
  • Proficient with Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls, including deployment, configuration, troubleshooting, performing upgrades, repurposing equipment, device replacement, and network management
  • Proficient in network monitoring technologies including SNMP, Syslog, NetFlow, sFlow
  • Capability and flexibility to work on a variety of network and management platforms and tools
  • Knowledge of network monitoring tools including Prime, Solarwinds, and Riverbed
  • Proficient in current voice, video, wireless, optical, and data networking technologies
  • Understanding of Dynamic Host Configuration (DHCP) services, Domain Name Servers (DNS), endpoint profiling/posturing, and IP address design/management
  • Knowledge of load balancing and application networking
  • Proficient in wireless networking, design, APs, controllers, and 4G for network redundancy
  • Proficient in authentication technologies and servers including ACS and Cisco ISE
  • Knowledge of Cisco Call Manager, Cisco IP phones, and VoIP technology
  • Knowledge of unified communications technologies and SIP
  • Proficient in video transport, encoding/decoding, and multicasting technologies
  • Knowledge of optical network technologies including OTN, CWDM, DWDM, and ROADM

Technical certifications:

  • Cisco networking certifications, including Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
