Accounting Specialist, Accounts Payable

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Accounts Payable Division Supervisor, the selected candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, accurately reviewing and entering a high volume of  purchase order invoices, payment request invoices,  and other invoices in SAP; daily extract assembly for checks and wire transfers; research and analysis of Goods Receipt/Invoice Receipt, and Payment Request Accruals reports, Journal Voucher preparation utilizing  Microsoft Excel, responding to vendor and staff telephone inquiries; and performing other related accounts payable tasks as assigned.

This is position is represented by the Communication Workers of America Union (CWA)

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Must have completed 12 college credits in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university and have successfully passed the Accounting Qualifying Test (AQT); or must have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • One to two years accounting experience

Desired

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • General knowledge of Port Authority accounting and financial structure.
  • Demonstrated ability in reconciling financial information.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with data entry and using PC applications, including       
  • Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word Working knowledge of SAP accounting and logistics modules.
  • Excellent oral communication, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal staff and external professionals at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
