Senior Airport Engineer, Facility Asset Specialist, LGA

The Aviation Department of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is currently seeking an experienced Senior Airport Engineer, Facility Asset Specialist to take a lead role in coordinating activities associated with LaGuardia Airport’s critical annual facility inspection programs.  Working within the Physical Plant & Redevelopment Division, the Senior Airport Engineer, Facility Asset Specialist will supervise airport tenant adherence to the Tenant Construction & Alteration Process (TCAP) and ensure relevant construction activities are conducted in compliance with local building codes, agency guidelines and facility safety protocols.  In this role you will be responsible for identifying and rolling out trendsetter industry ideas!

Reporting to the Manager, Airport Facility Projects, the Senior Airport Engineer, Facility Asset Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the Facility's Structural Integrity Program, coordinating the activities of Engineering QAD in their Condition Survey Program, reviewing the results of those surveys and planning a strategy to mitigate any/all deficiencies as determined by the inspections
  • Overseeing the implementation of solutions to mitigate deficiencies as determined by annual Post Construction Inspections, including the Annual Vertical Transportation Inspections as carried out by Engineering Quality Assurance, as well as managing the resolution of immediate action items from the various inspections
  • Oversight of the Fire Protection and Alarm systems of the facility, including liaising with airport tenants to verify their compliance with all codes and regulations
  • Work in close coordination with the COO's office and facility Maintenance staff on Agency initiatives for asset management
  • Execute the review and approval process of Tenant Alteration Applications (TAAs) and Minor Work Applications (MWAs) for LaGuardia Airport, ensuring that tenant leasehold modifications are performed within the established requirements of the Tenant Construction and Alteration Process (TCAP) Manual and Tenant Construction Review Manual (TCRM)
  • Serve on the airport Safety Committee


Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • At least three (3) years’ hands on experience in project management, design, inspection and/or construction
  • Knowledge of NYC Building Code requirements, construction standards, Tenant Construction Review Manual, Tenant Alteration Manual or other applicable Engineering Design codes
  • Experience effectively managing multiple concurrent projects
  • Valid driver's license.


Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • Construction Management (CM) certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contract administration and the principles, methods and tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating and managing projects and resources.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with engineering, maintenance, operations personnel and airport tenants
