Responsibilities

The World Trade Center (WTC) Events and Communications Manager will manage a wide variety of projects at the direction of the Assistant Director of Planning, Communications & Customer Service.  Responsibilities include the ongoing administration of the special events, activations, licensing, films and photo shoots program at the WTC, in addition to building relationships inside and outside the Agency to promote the WTC and encourage additional future activations and customer amenities.  This also involves a wide variety of short- and long-term WTC marketing-communications, customer engagement, and stakeholder coordination projects, including but not limited to work in a variety of traditional and non-traditional media.   All of the projects require a solid knowledge of Port Authority structures/procedures and knowledge of the special events and media industry, as well as the ability to define audiences and communications objectives, and design plans and programs to meet those objectives.

  • Manage, maintain, and enhance WTC special events, activations, licensing, films and photo shoots program, including event/activation production support as well as regulatory review and coordination.
  • Proactively and regularly coordinate with counterparts inside and outside the Agency to manage ongoing events and activations, and to promote and market additional events and activations that help make the WTC a “place-to-be”.
  • Keep abreast of news, events, and activities in the Lower Manhattan community, and maintain a connection to the regional special events and media industry.
  • Track and trend ongoing special events and media activity at the WTC for communication and coordination within and outside the Agency, including managing and updating a WTC events calendar with information that can be integrated with the WTC website, app, and social media.
  • Work collaboratively within the Agency, including relevant Staff/Support Departments and counterparts at other Line Departments, to establish and maintain policies for special events, activations, licensing, films and photo shoots at all agency facilities.
  • Work with internal Agency departments and staff as well as outside consultants to establish image-use and licensing agreements for the WTC, related to special events, activations, films and photo shoots.
  • Manage WTC communications projects from start to finish; working collaboratively with Agency Communications Departments and providing direction to internal support staff or external vendors, evaluating work product and seeing project through to production.

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate College Degree (Planning, Public Policy, Communications, Public Relations, or Marketing degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the special events, media, communications, licensing and/or public relations fields, experience in the NY/NJ region is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully establish working relationships and interact with staff at all levels, as well as external entities.
  • Must possess exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
  • Experience managing staff and/or contractors.
  • Experience in the special events, media, communications, licensing and/or public relations fields, particularly in the NY/NJ region.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and the ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Excellent project management and time management skills.
  • Understanding of social media platforms, and keeping abreast of emerging platforms.
  • Understanding of media planning and buying principles and NY-NJ media markets.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, and prioritize multiple assignments.
